as you might be aware, Buscat is in hospital with a blocked urethra (he cant pee) right now and we might not be able to pay for the treatment that he needs to save his life, since this has come only a month after Dorian’s emergency surgery.

Professor Albus Dumblecat

Bus has an ongoing problem which causes his urinary tract to become blocked whenever he is stressed. This is a problem for a lot of male cats but bus has an unusually narrow urethra which means the slightest inflammation will it cause it to swell completely shut.

This current stay is the third time he has been completely blocked and the 7th time he has been rushed to the vets because of this. the other times he could have his bladder expressed manually without the need of a catheter.

Urinary blockages have already hospitalised him with a catheter twice before, for four days each, and if we don’t catch it within 24 hours his kidneys will shut down and he will die, because it starts a chain reaction that he can’t stop on his own.

He gets blocked, he can’t pee, the urine builds up in his bladder, over stretching it and causing muscle spasms that lock his bladder and urethral sphincters down, and his urine becomes very concentrated. The concentrated urine becomes highly acidic, forms crystals and irritates the lining of his bladder and his urethra, causing them to become inflamed and swollen, and leading to infection. The inflamation causes his urethra to swell shut, but if it does go down enough to pee, the crystals formed will cut and scratch it or cause their own blockages, starting the cycle again.
The only way to stop the cycle is to catheterize him when he becomes blocked so that the urine can escape before becoming too concentrated, as well as muscle spasm medication and anti-inflammatories while he is catheterised.

After changing vets and trying a range of long term managements and STILL having him block up like this, it looks like his physiological problems (his urethra being too small and his tendency to muscle spasm when stressed) are too much, and we can’t manage his condition without surgery like we were hoping.
thunderstorms are enough to start it even with anxiety medication, urinary stress perscription food and feliway, so the only other option left is a perineal urethrostomy, which basically cuts off the penis and the too-narrow part of his urethra then re-routes the urethra so it comes out a new, wider hole.

The problem is after spending the last four months taking Bus back and forth from the vets, and Dorian’s emergency major surgery (the last time we rushed bus to the vet dorian got into my sewing supplies which I hadn’t put away properly, and ate an embroidery needle, puncturing his esophogas and requiring 11 days in hospital to save his life) we have exhausted our financial resources.

As of today (november 22nd) without donations we can only afford to keep bus in the vets till tomorrow morning, let alone the ~$3k he needs for the operation to stop it happening.

Without the operation we are relying on the hope that bus will pull through and recover enough in under 24h to pee on his own and come home. If he comes home without peeing on his own, he will die.

I hate to ask, but if you’ve ever laughed at my stories about Bus or found comfort in my writing or advice, please consider donating to us or signal boosting this post so I can afford to give them the treatment they need.

As incentive im offering plush gifts to anyone who donates $100 or more to my paypal,

contact me via tumblr, skype (hollowedskin) or email > hollowedskin at gmail dot com. Requests are as i can do them, but i cant afford new materials so its with what I have in my fabric drawer.

Here are some of the things i’ve made so you can see what type of things I can do.

Also the espeon is for sale here if you would like to help out and also get something to own out of it

Thank you.

I will be posting updates on his condition tagged as #buscat update and timed and dated, whenever I know anything new. Thank you
