The three hour police standoff in Ferguson this afternoon ended with a SWAT team finding the house to be empty. The man they were searching for, named Lorenzo, had escaped to a nearby church, where people there spoke with him and convinced him to turn himself over to the police. Lorenzo, who is schizophrenic, is currently receiving mental health attention.
I’m just here to remind you that everything that is happening in Ferguson right now is because of the residents and activists in Ferguson that have spent 215 days protesting. I’m also here to remind you that Black people have led this movement. And for this reason, we will never allow anyone to force a white savior narrative on us. We are perfectly capable of freeing ourselves and speaking to our own experiences, we don’t need anyone doing that for us. We are capable. We WILL get free. “Ain’t no power like the power of the people cause the power of the people don’t stop!”
CNN says that the Justice Department will demand that the Ferguson police correct whatever tactics are leading to a pattern of racial discrimination. If they refuse, the Justice Department will move forward with a lawsuit to force changes. The Justice Department could also ask a judge to order court supervision of the police department’s dealings with minorities.
On the morning of the 6 month anniversary of Mike Brown’s death, protesters delivered fist-shaped tombstones, a coffin, and a list of demands to St. Louis Mayor Slay’s house.
not seeing many posts about Ferguson on my dash anymore. If your anger at the tumblr update is currently more intense than that of Ferguson and Darren Wilson you may want to consider refocusing on the bigger picture.
