Noo.
“Otherkin” is a broad term that can mean a lot of different things, including (but not limited to):
- Believing that you are, in some part, non-human. This can be based on religious/spiritual beliefs or non-religious/spiritual beliefs.
- Believing that you are, through reincarnation, a non-human soul inhabiting a human body. Again, this can be religious/spiritual or non-religious/spiritual.
- Having an intense affinity for something. There are some people who identify as, for example, kittykin, bcos they love cats more than anything or they relate to them or they wish they’d been born a cat.
Some otherkin believe they are actually non-human. Some otherkin don’t. Both are valid.
The “but otherkin conflate being otherkin with being trans though!! Otherkin think they’re trans!!” argument stemmed from anti-sj bloggers doing what they do best: make strawmen out of everything they don’t like.
Cis otherkin don’t think they’re trans. They don’t belong in the trans community. Nobody is arguing against this.
Some trans people are also otherkin for any of the reasons listed above. & some trans otherkin feel that their gender & their kin are closely intertwined for a variety of reasons. That’s valid too.
So, to recap: “Otherkin” has a lot of meanings. Being otherkin & being trans are two different things. Sometimes a person’s kin & their gender are closely related. Stop shitting on people’s identities & religious beliefs just cos you (general you; not specifically you, anon) don’t take the time to actually understand what’s going on.
I hope this helps untwist the absolute mess anti-sj bloggers & truscum have worked so hard to fabricate.

as much as im happy for caitlyn in coming out i want to give a shout out to all of the trans kids who are going to have to sit in silence and listen to their parents/family members make harsh and transphobic statements on how they feel about her transition
youve got this i know this sucks but i know you can do it
a very important public service announcement
- hindi is a language
- hinduism is a religion
- hindu is someone who follows it
- not all indians are hindu
- not all indians speak hindi
- the ‘d’ in hindu and hindi is pronounced like the ‘th’ in ‘though’
- desi, pronounced “they see” and not daisy or dessi, means south asian
- south asia = pakistan, india, bangladesh, sri lanka, nepal, etc. for those of you who have never looked at world map
- desis are asians and have every right to call themselves that. shocking, I know. take your time to digest that.
- I can’t believe I have to make this post
- it’s 2013 and people still don’t know how to google this shit
- but freak the fuck out when you say Britain when you meant, god forbid, England
acceptable problems to have with Caitlyn Jenner, you go, you critique those mainstream narratives
- as a wealthy, white celebrity, her experiences aren’t representative of those of most trans women
- she’s described herself as conservative, which, even though she hopes to make the Republican Party more trans-inclusive, implies some other oppressive views
- a lot of trans people don’t conform to cis beauty standards and that’s just fine
- the narrative of visibility as a goal is really problematic for trans people who are placed in danger by hypervisibility
- “trans media moments” like this don’t do very much if they focus on one successful trans person instead of the systematic oppression we face
- cis “allies” who fetishize trans women but don’t show up when trans people need solidarity
unacceptable problems to have with Caitlyn Jenner, get off my blog, you transphobic trashpile
- you think trans people are gross
- you think trans people’s identities aren’t valid
- you’re uncomfortable finding trans women attractive
- seriously if you have any issue with Caitlyn Jenner being trans, shut the fuck up and please never speak again
I have some issues with the acceptable critiques of Caitlyn Jenner.
While she is not representative of the majority of trans women, she doesn’t claim to be and it doesn’t mean she shouldn’t be able to share her story.
She’s been conservative for a good while to my (admittedly weak) knowledge. Criticizing her now vs. criticizing literally every other conservative celeb is problematic.
Does Caitlyn ever say that not conforming to cis beauty standards isn’t ok for trans women to do? If she wanted to conform that is her decision.
As long as Caitlyn Jenner transitioned there was inevitably going to be huge media coverage and visibility. Caitlyn in my opinion chose the right path since an in depth conversation of about transphobia, pronouns, respect in a wider audience is so much more constructive than tabloids filled with transphobia.
Caitlin isn’t in control of what the media tells about and did this for her well being.
Cis allies are going to suck, that’s not Caitlyn’s fault it’s the shitty allies.
Like I feel these are problems with media and it’s portrayal of Caitlyn Jenner, not of Caitlyn Jenner as the post frames it.
Idk it’s 5 am and I haven’t slept yet so if I’m missing the point/wrong/offensive I apologize in advance and please let me know.
I’ve also been uncomfortable with how much emphasis has been placed on Caitlyn Jenner’s beauty by cis people.
Yes she is beautiful.
But a woman doesn’t have to be beautiful to deserve respect or to be a woman.
And when I see the emphasis being placed on a trans woman’s beauty when she comes out with comments like “wow she really pulled herself together,” it makes me wonder if what my fellow cis people are really saying is “she looks like what I think a woman should look like.” And where does that leave trans women who don’t meet normative (and especially cisnormative) standards of beauty?
I just want to make sure we are celebrating the beauty and worth of all trans women, not just those who are white, famous, and wealthy enough to afford any form of physical transition they desire. And that as cis people we’re being self-critical of the ways we think and speak about trans people.
Anxiety attacks aren’t always hyperventilating and rocking back and forth
Anxiety attacks can take different forms, such as:
- Unpredictable bouts of rage or irritability
- Nit-pickiness (obsessive behavior, which may be a part of OCD), and even a hypersensitivity to disarray, chaos, or any sort of change
- Fast-talking, stuttering, stumbling over words
- Not talking at all
- Sitting rigid, staring into space, almost seeming “zoned out”
Understanding the way our or other’s anxiety works can help to decrease the stigma and help to calm a person faster and get them out of that state. These are just a few, but it gives an idea of the range in which attacks can come.
hey other cis people: yes, caitlyn jenner looks stunning in her vanity fair debut but let’s remember that saying stuff like “she looks better than I do!” or along those lines implies that by default trans women are inherently less attractive than cis women/have higher standards to adhere to. im seeing a lot of this so please try to be mindful!
i absolutely understand where youre coming from. but what are youre thoughts on minor shoplifting from major corporations like taking a tube of lipstick from wal mart? personally i see nothing wrong with it, they wont miss it ya know?
I used to work for Asda who is owned by Walmart and work in the same way. I actually used to work in stock control. If the numbers on the computer did not add up with the numbers of the product we actually owned then I would have to go searching for it. If i could not find it I would have to knock it off which would reflect badly on my work.
Also when things are stolen and the numbers have to be knocked off then its called shrink, the more shrink you have on your individual store then lower your bonus will be and the budget for things like the Christmas party or something nice in the staff cafe. Things like the Christmas Party does not sound important but for some people it can be the highlight of their year.
If everyone thought it was okay to steal a £4 tube of lipstick or something small then the more stock that store has to knock off. In my store the shrink got so bad that all the staff had to line up and be frisked before leaving the store.
Also another thing is it is normal practice for a store to let you think you keep on getting away with stealing from them so they can collect evidence to prosecute you for a bigger sentence so its really not worth it.
I actually buy my liptick from Superdrug, their £1 selection is fantastic, I wore a purple lipstick and it stayed on all through a night out!
The shrink at my store was so bad that we had inventory every couple months. Instead of a couple times in a year.
Every employee had to show what was in their pockets and each compartment of their purse, wallet, or shopping bag before exiting the store, even for lunch. If you had leftovers from lunch you were taking home with you, you had to open the bag up and show the closing manager everything inside. She had to do the same thing with you.
And our shrink didn’t result in loss of bonuses or Christmas parties. It resulted in cuts to payroll, which means deliberate understaffing and loss of hours. If the store doesn’t make goal because the shrink is too high, they’ll cut from payroll until they get their money back. Corporate always gets their money back.
So yes, it does have an effect on the employee when you steal “a tube of lipstick from Walmart.” Someone somewhere was instructed to deter you from stealing that lipstick. They were told they were responsible for that lipstick. When you take that lipstick, they don’t really care about finding you and getting it back. They care about holding someone responsible and getting their money back. If getting their money back means taking someone down to part-time (which can mean a total loss in benefits, either Company wise or State wise) or demoting them or transferring them or firing them entirely, they’ll do that. If it means closing a store that’s reporting loss too regularly, they’ll do that. Their main priority is getting their money back.
The company will always get their money back.
So there you have it folks. If you think you are okay hitting the big businesses when stealing then you are wrong. You are making other people pay for your crime. Or are you just that selfish that you don’t care?
What people think self-diagnosis is: “Wow that is sure one funny disorder, claiming to have that would surely give me a lot of attention on tumblr.”
What self-diagnosis actually is: “Wow, there’s a name for this… There are terms for the things I do and experience and a community of people with similar experiences. There are coping methods and advice written for people like me. Maybe I’m not exaggerating, maybe I’m not making stuff up, maybe I’m not a failure… Maybe my experiences are completely valid.”
i wanna make this post for trans and nonbinary people who still call themselves “girls” or “boys” on accident sometimes.
it’s ok. you’ve internalized that for your entire life. you’ve been classified as a “he” or a “she” for your entire life. if you are not out, you probably hang out with people who call you a girl or a boy, and who laugh and and joke and have no idea.
and so it’s ok if you slip up. it’s ok.
it’s a process, even learning to get your own gender right.
