To the people that say “you should respect your family”:

betterthandarkchocolate:

  1. Stop assuming that everyone has been treated well by that family.
  2. Respect is not freely given, it is earned. You don’t owe anyone respect. You do not owe anyone anything.
  3. This line is used repeatedly in abusive situations. It is frequently used in emotional abuse in the form of gaslighting to make the survivor doubt their perceptions of events. It also is frequently used to control, manipulate and coerce behaviour.

Please don’t forget Darrien Hunt, a 22 year old cosplayer from Utah who was carrying a replica sword who was shot 6 times in the back while he was fleeing for his life 2 months ago

The cops tried covering this one up too:

  • He was shot from behind, running away and fleeing like we see in the surveillance tape where he is running for his life
  • The police originally claimed that he was swinging his sword and lunged at him before they begun shooting him. The police chief ruled the shooting justifiedThis is contrary to the evidence which indicates he was shot in the back
  • They allowed a police chief to make this ruling outside of a court of law, the investigation was carried out by an “officer-involved shooting protocol team”
  • The sword was bought from a gift shop and did not have a sharp edge, yet in the report they claim he swung it at them and they were afraid of getting sliced
  • The two cops who shot him are both reinstated: Schauerhamer and Judson
  • The area is 93% white, 0.5% black
  • The questioning of the cops was delayed and they’ve now altered their story (that Hunt lunged at them and that is why he ultimately died)
  • The shot that killed him, though, was the shot in the back that he received while fleeing. He was shot a total of 6 times.

We are allowing police departments all over the country to get away with murder. They are held unaccountable for their murder. This is genocide. People are justifying this just like they justify Brown’s murder. Question everything. Don’t believe a word these genocidal police departments say all over the country. They are held above the lawThis will keep happening if precedent is not set.

uh… news stations are kind of brushing over the fact that 20 year old deandre joshua was found dead last night only yards from where michael brown died. he was shot in the head and set on fire… they’re blaming it on the riots but no one really knows what happened and it sounds a lot like a hate crime

He was the best friend of the #1 witness of Michael Brown’s murder and this was not a coincidence. Now is the time to be very very afraid

Can you imagine though?

Can you imagine thousands upon thousands of protesters bringing the parade that is broadcasted to millions of American homes, to a complete halt? Imagine sitting at home on Thanksgiving, tomorrow, watching the parade with your family, when the protesters manage to bring the entire parade to a standstill

Imagine how amazing and ground-breaking that would be. Fuck the traditions of this genocidal holiday. Change history. Do not stand down.

You can not be selective with which oppressed people you help.

You can’t forget trans/nonbinary people.

You can’t forget Muslims.

You can’t forget disabled or nueroatypical people.

You can’t forget Jews.

You can’t forget asexual or aromatic spectrum people.

You can’t forget people of color.

You can’t forget women.

You aren’t forgetting either, you are actively ignoring people. You choose what content you reblog and spread. We see the difference in notes when we talk about social justice in less popular subjects versus when we talk about popular issues. We see which petitions are signed and what enrages you. We need you to care about us too. We don’t care about your follower count; we care about living free of oppression.

You are not doing social justice you are trying to look good and improve your follower count.

Clarification: This is not about Ferguson. I am in no way condemning those protests.

dearnonacepeople:

Even if Darren Wilson was totally in the right (which seems to be the most controversial part of all this) and I’m not saying he is. The way the police have handled the media coverage and protests have been unconstitutional, unethical and overt police brutality. It will be extremely hard to punish Darren Wilson legally due to the recent decision by the superior court. These police shootings are symptoms of the racist police practices in Ferguson and nationally. Fighting the system is in some ways more likely to succeed and make a difference large scale. But it’s not an either or decision. Fight for both causes.
