no offense but i need everyone to stop saying that “we survived” bad presidents before. like, i get it, the country has weathered people like andrew jackson and ronald reagan and will probably weather trump. but when you say “we survived” andrew jackson? tell that to the 4000 (of 16000) cherokee who died on the trail of tears. “we survived” ronald reagan? tell that to the 650,000 americans who have died of aids– a national health crisis which reagan refused to even recognize?
you know who “survived” presidents like trump? people who never had to be afraid of them in the first place.
In the next couple days / weeks / always, I’d like to remind people to check the sources and dates of articles they’re sharing/reblogging. Misinformation spreads via clickbait titles on disreputable/non-news sites, or old articles with relevant titles but out-of-date information.
This is, at best, extremely frustrating and at worst, very very dangerous. There are people out there, for whatever reason, who are taking advantage of public sentiment and creating false news stories that play to our worst fears. Every time you share a false news story, you make it less likely that people will believe the real ones that come after them.
Please check your sources. Don’t help spread misinformation.
Okay, so…Trump won. And I’m never gonna not be worried about everybody, really.
But I need you all to know that threatening harm to the President of the United States is a class E felony under United States law and can get you investigated by the Secret Service, arrested, put on trial, and even put in jail. Even comments that you make online can carry this punishment. I know everyone’s angry, but please don’t do anything that could get you put in jail.
i forget that some people may not know this. please don’t even joke about it online. they will see it and take that seriously. please trust me when i say i know this to be a fact.
A quick note based on my post-Brexit experience in the UK – in the time period after the election, your biggest threat will not be Trump and his government. It will be your newly validated bigot neighbours. After Brexit, hate crime shot up by 60% in the UK nearly overnight and it still hasn’t returned to its pre-Brexit level. I imagine the same will happen in America. Be careful. No matter who they are, Trump voters are not your friends. Be safe. Your biggest enemy right now is the neighbour you went to church with and the people you pass on the street every day. Lock down. Go to ground if you have to. Look out for one another. Please, be careful.
THIS is what you can do tight now if you are white and desperate in America right now:
– Cook your Latino, Black, Native, LGBT, Muslim and Asian neighbours a casserole tonight. I can assure you, they are much more afraid than you today and maybe they should not get out of the house.
– Offer to take them or their kids wherever they need to go when they have appointments and maybe school.
– Go over and say hi, say: I know you are scared. How can I help you?
– If you see a woman wearing a hijab on the subway, sit next to her and smile.
– If you see a man wearing a turban, a kippah do the same.
– Watch out for your kids non-white class mates.
– If you see someone hollering racist shit at another person in the streets and it feels relatively safe. CALL THEM OUT ON IT.
It is not that more people suddenly are racist. But many people suddenly feel validated and allowed to abuse others. Those people? Are cowards! As soon as someone stands up to them, they shrink back into their little holes!

We’re in panic. Our coin went from 18 to 21.50 a dollar (and will probably reach 22.50), our products and services will be more expensive by the morning. No one will want to invest here. We’re humiliated, we were called rapists and apparently you agree. We’re threatened to be separated by a wall… Do you have idea how many millions of families will be separated? How many children will see their parents being deported? The violence migrants will receive?

Donald Trump is a bumbling political idiot, Mike Pence is actively
against the people and possibilities that we need to help America to

Here are some things that every voter should know about Mike Pence:
– Science and invention helped build America, but Mike Pence is 100% anti-science.
He chooses not to accept the preponderance of evidence that supports

to teach Christian “creationism” mythology alongside evolution in
science classrooms.
– Mike Pence is anti-environment.
As governor, he has vetoed every piece of environmental regulation that
has crossed his desk. He doesn’t want the EPA to regulate greenhouse
gases, and he does want to open up pretty much every part of our country
to oil and coal companies. No more wildlands under Pence. He is one of
those irresponsible extremists who think that God gave us the world so
we could just use it up, and when it is all used up the second coming
will occur. There is no Biblical basis for this belief.
– Females make up more than half of the American population, but Mike Pence is anti-woman.
He has said the Disney movie “Mulan,” which was based on a centuries
old Chinese poem, was the work of a “mischievous liberal” trying to
groom young children to accept women in combat. “Despite her delicate
features and voice, Disney expects us to believe that Mulan’s ingenuity
and courage were enough to carry her to military success on an equal
basis,” he wrote on his radio show’s website.
– He obsessively pursues a personal vendetta to take Title X funding
away from Planned Parenthood because Planned Parenthood provides
abortion services. Title X money CANNOT be used for abortions. Abortions
are paid for by the recipient or through private, tagged donations.
Taking away Title X will not impact abortion services, but it would
leave thousands of women without access to cancer screenings or birth
control.
– Speaking of birth control, Mike Pence once again revealed his historical ignorance in saying that condoms are “modern” and “liberal.”
He thinks all women should be pregnant unless they can’t afford a baby,
in which case they should abstain from sex, even if they are married.
That’s right: sex is only for procreation in PenceWorld. If you can’t
afford the diapers, then hubby should be sleeping on the couch.
– Mike Pence is also anti-gay,
to the point of denial. He doesn’t want the government to pay for
cancer screenings, but he does want the government to pay for abusive
“conversion therapy” programs that systematically undermine the victim’s
self-esteem, and then indoctrinate them into robotic gender-appropriate
behaviors. He has signed into law a bill that allows discrimination
against LGTBQ customers based on religious belief.
– As governor of Indiana, Mike Pence was personally responsible for an outbreak of AIDS when he refused to allow clean needle exchanges for drug addicts. Instead, he asked people to pray for the addicts.
– Mike Pence is racist.
He thinks there is “too much talk” about institutional racism in law
enforcement because “police officers are human beings.” His solution is
unity through “faith.” The Indiana governor has tried to prevent Syrian
refugees from settling in his state because the “pose a threat to safety
of residents.” Pence argued that his policy was based on fear, not
race, so it wasn’t discriminatory. A Federal Appeals Court dismissed his
racist arguments on October 3, 2016.
– A Federal Court also had to block his bizarre anti-abortion law
that required burial or cremation for fetuses, whether miscarried or
aborted, no matter how far along the pregnancy had progressed.
– Mike Pence is pro-birth, but not pro-life.
He once funneled $3.5M dollars from Temporary Assistance to Needy
Families into programs that counsel against abortion. He wants those
women to have those babies, but he doesn’t care if the kids starve or
live on the streets afterward.
– Mike Pence has refused to comply with federal guidelines aimed at reducing prison rape.
When
you add it all together, you can see that the most dangerous part of
the Trump-Pence ticket is …that calculating quiet man who will be leading the charge from behind. Mike Pence is basically against anyone who is not white, conservative, Christian, and male.
When
Mike Pence was a young lawyer on the rise, he challenged a longtime
Democratic congressman for a seat in a Republican-leaning Indiana
district. He seemed to have it in the bag until voters were stunned to
learn that he had been using political donations to pay personal
expenses including the mortgage on his house, his credit card bill,
groceries, golf tournament fees, and car payments for his wife.”
I’ve already tweeted about this but here’s a longer post for all naturalized citizens especially those who have been visibly marked a “other” and aren’t part of the “again” when Trump says that he’s making America great “again.”

Trump took the support of white suburban women, those are also the types of women who want to adopt foreign children like they’re some kind of charitable, exotic vase. This does not mean they will necessarily ensure citizenship for their adopted children. For foreign adoptees who were 18 by 2000, you are not covered under the current Child Citizenship Act (2000). If you do not have proof of naturalization and even though you were raised here your entire life, you can be deported:

This brings me to the point of my post: naturalized citizens, get proof of citizenship while Obama is still president. Naturalized citizens can use two documents to prove their citizenship: a U.S. passport and a Certificate of Naturalization (N-550, N-750).
U.S. Passport info:
Routine processing for a new passport typically takes 4-5 weeks and there is an expedited processing option (2-3).

Now, onto the Certificate of Naturalization:
The Certificate of U.S. Naturalization (form N-550 or N-570) is a document issued by United States government as proof of a person having obtained U.S. citizenship through naturalization (a legal process of obtaining a new nationality). The Certificate of U.S. Naturalization has been issued since October 1, 1991 by the USCIS, and on or before September 30, 1991 by Federal Courts and particular State Courts. The United States Certificate of Naturalization is proof of an individual’s U.S. citizenship through naturalization. Only naturalized United States citizens can apply for a Certificate of U.S. Naturalization. If you are not a United States citizen, you must first apply for US citizenship.
These were apparently issued in 1991 so the yellowed certificate of my citizenship from the 1980s on yellowing, delicate paper might not cut it. I am applying for a new certificate of naturalization but not before I scan both sides of it and find a notary to sign something that says they saw it.
The fee for another copy of Certificate of Naturalization: $345
Trans* naturalized citizens, you can request a new Certificate of Naturalization due to a legal change in gender. Will this change under a Trump presidency? Who knows? Who wants to risk it?
I saw a lot of white people who were SO SHOCKED and SO SURPRISED their fellow white people voted for Trump. I saw tweets about “hurting” for their friends who were women, immigrant, minority, trans, queer – and god help us if you fall into more than one of those categories. That’s not even to mention the undocumented and those on work or school visas – immigration has a lot of fucking narratives and its time you start realizing that.
So, do you want to help? Here are two ways to start helping your immigrant friends.
First, you can help your naturalized friends by getting their paperwork and money in order: planning, finding a translator, helping with gathering paperwork and looking over their paperwork before its submitted; lending emotional support, accompanying them to immigration services and/or other appointments. Take some of that #ImWithHer sentiments that led you to donate to Hillary’s campaign and buy “nasty women” t-shirts and give your friends cold hard cash so they have proof of citizenship either in the form of a U.S. passport or Certificate of Naturalization.
Second, you can start writing your senator and pressuring them to support of bill S.2275 – Adoptee Citizenship Act of 2015 introduced by Sen. Am Klobuchar (D-MN) designed to prevent the kind of tragedy facing Adam Crapsner in the stories linked above:
This bill amends the Immigration and Nationality Act to grant automatic citizenship to all qualifying children adopted by a U.S. citizen parent, regardless of the date on which the adoption was finalized.
An individual born outside of the United States who was adopted by a U.S. citizen parent shall automatically become a U.S. citizen when the following conditions have been fulfilled:
the individual was adopted by a U.S. citizen before the individual reached age 18,
the individual was physically present in the United States in the citizen parent’s legal custody pursuant to a lawful admission before the individual reached age 18,
the individual never acquired U.S. citizenship before the enactment of this Act, and
the individual was lawfully residing in the United States on the date of enactment of this Act.
An individual who meets such criteria, except for lawfully residing in the United States on the date of enactment of this Act, shall automatically become a U.S. citizen on the date on which the individual is physically present in the United States pursuant to a lawful admission.
Hey, hi, I processed the applications for replacement Naturalization Certificates for about half the country (if you send them to the Nebraska Service Center, I did them until I left that job in September). When I left, we were about 4-6 months backlogged on those, so get them done ASAP.
You CAN request them to be expedited.
You CAN ask your congressperson to write a letter on your behalf – USCIS tends to hustle those through quicker!
You CAN apply to have the application fee waived if you are below 120% of the Federal Poverty Line AND/OR you are on need-based benefits (SSI, Welfare, SNAP, WIC, Disability, etc.) AND/OR you can demonstrate financial hardship. I know $345 can be steep, but there are ways around it.
To help USCIS get your form done faster:
Make sure you’re using the current revision of the form. This is the #1 reason I rejected forms, they were outdated.
Make sure you have filled the form out completely, to the best of your ability. Include your A-Number, if you know it. Include any other names you have ever used. If we can’t find you in our database, it takes us WAY longer to process the form.
Make sure you include all the pages. Some are optional in certain circumstances, but we won’t reject an N-565 for being too complete.
