#MAKE THE MAHLER HAMMER AS FAMOUS AS THE TCHAIKOVSKY CANNONS
I am clearly missing something amazing
It’s even more awesome if you know the story behind it. See, the orchestral score doesn’t actually specify the use of a huge wooden mallet. In fact, it doesn’t specify any particular instrument at all: it just describes a completely hypothetical instrumental sound – “brief and mighty, but dull in resonance and with a non-metallic character (like the fall of an axe)” – and leaves it to the orchestra director to figure out how to actually produce it. Apart from the Big Fucking Mallet, past attempts have included custom-made bass drums, smacking a wooden crate with a sledgehammer, and dropping heavy objects onto the stage from a great height.
I don’t know if Mahler actually intended to troll entire generations of orchestras, but if he did, it totally worked.
What about swinging an axe into a log?
Not loud enough, or so I’m told.

Exodus AU: A Fanmix
I have been listening to a great deal of “X Hour Epic Music Mix”
things on Youtube recently (they’re good mood music for this kind of
writing), and I’ve been pausing them and looking up music I particularly
like to get the individual songs because I like knowing whose music I’m
listening to.So I matched moods and music to the timeline of Exodus AU. (Of
course, some of the titles matched too! But that wasn’t what I was
aiming for.) Very, very roughly, the first half is darker music and the
second half is more hopeful music. You can also listen to this playlist as a Youtube playlist here.
Note: The video I link to for the first song has some body horror in
its “track art”. I couldn’t find a version without that body horror,
unfortunately.

it’s 2am an I regret nothing
thanks to inky-thoughts for kicking me into gear
Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh. I am sitting here shivering and crying because of all the chills running down my spine and the emotions this has evoked.
Let’s do a tag game where we don’t use words, just commonly put together letters:
- co
- ie
- ta
- po
- sc
- si
- bl
- mu
this is my favourite version you cant stop me
THIS IS GREAT BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT WOULD IT WOULD HAVE ACTUALLY SOUNDED LIKE FROM LIKE— ELSE’A PERSPECTIVE OR SOME TINY UNNOTICEABLE FAIRY THAT MAKES NO SOUND
REMEMBER, WHEN DISNEY CHARACTERS BURST OUT INTO SONG THEY DONT HEAR THE MUSIC, JUST THEM AND WHATS HAPPENING AROUND THEM
AND THIS REALLY PUTS INTO PERSPECTIVE JUST HOW
fucking weird these assholes are i mean like seriously what the fuck

Check out this mix on @8tracks: You Make Me Good (Sophie/Agatha mix)
Hey, I made this music mix earlier after finishing reading a World Without Princes. Mainly because I really love the pairing of Agatha and Sophie.
SOME DIE YOUNG (BUT YOU’D BETTER HOLD ON); a nita/kit fanmix
“Look,” she said, “I didn’t do it for you ‘some.’ I did it for you ‘pretty much.’”
Kit looked at her with an expression that at first made Nita think Kit thought she was angry with him. But then it became plain that he was embarrassed too. “Well,” he said, “okay. I—thought maybe you did. But I didn’t want to say anything because I didn’t know for sure. And I would have felt really stupid if I was wrong.” He had been looking away. Now he looked at her. “So?”
“So,” and her voice stuck again, and she had to clear her throat to unstick it. “I like you, that’s all. A lot. And if you start liking somebody that much, well, I still want to keep the team going. If you do. That’s all.”
He didn’t say anything. Nita stood there burning in a torment of embarrassment and anger at herself.
“Neets. Cut me some slack. You’re my best friend.”
This is actually the most perfect fanmix and it’s perfect for Nita and Kit and you should listen to it even if you don’t really ship them romantically it is so perfect perfect songs perfect lyrics perfect
“Must I accept the barren Gift?
-learn death, and lose my Mastery?
Then let them know whose blood and breath
will take the Gift and set them free:
whose is the voice and whose the mind
to set at naught the well-sung Game-
when finned Finality arrives
and calls me by my…
Okay, I tried to voice this. I tried to make it sort of half-sung, half-spoken, and I think I did okay.
When I was in elementary school, I found the greatest comfort in the heroines of children’s literature. My role models were Coraline Jones, Hermione Granger, and Gratuity Tucci – the spectacular hero of my all-time favorite book: The True Meaning of Smekday, by Adam Rex. After all these years, I’ve decided to pay my respects to that wonderful novel, so here it is – the Smekday fansong!
The cover art is courtesy of Adam Rex himself. I thank him from the bottom of my heart.
•••You think you’re better ‘cause you lived a little longer
think you’re bigger ‘cause you stand up straighter
let me tell you that I’ve dealt with taller
and stronger and louder than you.I may be small but I’ve a lot of smarts and
I’m quicker than those academic farts and
for one so tiny, I’ve got a lot of heart and
I’m braver than grown-ups, too.I’m eleven and I can do anything.
I drove across this empty promise, crowded land
I saw the monsters and the people hand in hand
I saved the world and I learned one thing in the end:
there’s no such thing as perfect monsters
and some of them are friends. It’s all a whirl of moles and mice and tool kits
and driving hover cars without a permit
and mortifying doesn’t even cover it
sure was a crazy year.Don’t say I’m too young for this and that ‘cause
I’ve bested creatures twice my size with cat fuzz
and I’m the most heroic girl there ever was
yet no one knew I was here.I’m still eleven, and I’ll do anything.
I never thought that I would end up driving
into a little guy who sent me flying
across the wasteland of a species dying
under a scabbed faux-moon.I guess I never thought a lot of things that
are now as real as any mouse or cloned cat.
But thanks to things that I thought I was bad at
the monsters are leaving soon.I was eleven, and I did everything.
I won us back our rightful home, our only land
The outcasts, orphans and my best friend lent a hand.
I saved the world and I learned one thing in the end:
we are the best kind of monster
and we’ll always be friends.
