This video was shot back in 2012 at the Eagle Valley Raptor Center near Cheney, KS. Oakley was orphaned after a tornado struck the area and program director Ken Lockwood (Raptor Rehabber on YouTube) provided him with the stuffed owl while there were no other young owls in the center to keep him company. Oakley like to lean on it for comfort and its presence helped reduce his stress levels. And, you know, to get his Halloween groove on:
A few weeks later Oakley was placed with two more young owls and a few month after that Oakley was successfully released back into the wild by the EVC. Perhaps now he’s singing “Monster Mash” with owlets of his own.
