Texas has passed a humiliating law that requires fetal remains from abortion or miscarriage to be buried or cremated

Under the new rule, hospitals, abortion clinics, and other health care facilities are prohibited from disposing of fetal remains in sanitary landfills. Instead, they must finance cremation or burial of the remains. Texas made this clarification in response to outrage about privacy concerns.

‘A US air strike killed nearly 60 civilians, including children, in Syria on Tuesday after the coalition mistook them for Islamic State fighters.
Some eight families were hit as they tried to flee fighting in their area, in one of the single deadliest strikes on civilians by the alliance since the start of its operations in the war-torn country.’

My kid cousin, all of 11 years old, called me up sobbing today. I had about 50 horrifying reasons popping up in my head when he stopped crying enough to ask one question

“Cap’s not Hydra, right?”

A bit of background on why this made sense to me: My cousin was 3 when me and my brother bought him a cute Captain America hoodie. He was 5 when he first caught sight of his dad’s comic collection. He was 8 when he insisted on dressing up as Captain America for a contest at school. He was 9 when he first got bullied and his mom used Captain America as a symbol to tell him to always be kind in strength, to know that he was a better person. He got his Marvel encyclopedia last year for his birthday and every time we meet, me and him have hours long discussions on the characters. His favorite Avenger is Iron Man but he has always been and will always be a Cap’s boy. Steve Rogers has helped him appreciate his own strengths, has helped him understand that being a good person is much more important than being perfect. He got strength from Cap’s stand against bullying, inspiration from Steve’s ability to be kind and caring about the world even in the worst of situations, and most of all motivation to appreciate his own goodness. To him, he was just like Steve Rogers and I’ve seen that kid be so proud of that.

And today he calls me up, shattered and heartbroken, because his ideals, his dreams and convictions of years have been ripped apart. He felt betrayed and lost, because if Cap, his Cap, could be Hydra, a Nazi organization, then did it mean that he was drawing strength from evil all these years?

An eleven year old is questioning his life choices. Nick, still think you’re funny?

My six year old godson is crying in his bedroom right now – his Marvel plastered, Captain America bedsheets and poster covered bedroom – because his hero is a bad-guy and apparently has been all along.

Nick Spencer is such a bad writer that the only way he could think of make his mark on a character like Steve Rogers is to steal the hero from thousands of children.

And if I thought I could find them without having to break out a microscope, I’d gladly do the jail time for punching him in the balls.

Tell kids everyone that Nick Spencer is Hydra and he’s trying to convince them to lose faith in Cap. This is what I told my nephew and he accepted that and decided he was going to keep wearing his Cap shirt because otherwise he was letting Hydra win.

This is a good plan. And excellent plan. Everyone do this!

Signal boost: Skylanders is partnering with Autism $peaks this year.

autistictsoni:

They are making special “Power Blue” Supercharger figures for “light it up blue.” These are already being sold in the US and Europe and will be sold in Canada starting next month.

Skylanders is planning to donate a large amount of money to Autism $peaks, not just from these special figures but potentially from all Skylanders sales.

Please participate in boycotting Skylanders and this harmful organization. If you are able to, consider contacting Skylanders and asking them to end their support of A$. Their website is here, and their Facebook page is here. A few people have spoken up already, but the more negative comments they receive, the better the chance they will reconsider.

Kam Brock says she is definitely not crazy, but eight days in the Harlem Hospital psych ward being treated for delusions and bipolar disorder make it look otherwise.

According to the New York Daily News, the whole ordeal started when Brock’s car was seized by the NYPD, who suspected she was high on weed and confiscated her car even though they found no marijuana. When Brock returned to claim her car, she was understandably upset, but not upset enough to justify what happened next.

“Next thing you know, the police held onto me, the doctor stuck me with a needle, and I was knocked out,” Brock said told the Daily News. “I woke up to them taking off my underwear and then went out again. I woke up the next day in a hospital robe.”

In an attempt to explain her situation to the hospital workers, Brock tried a character reference that epically backfired. “I told (the doctor) Obama follows me on Twitter to show her the type of person I am. I’m a good person, a positive person. Obama follows positive people!” she said.

But apparently, the hospital didn’t believe her. Nor did they believe that she worked at a bank. As hospital records show, her treatment was intended to get her to face the “reality” that she was unemployed and that Obama was not following her.

After eight days of group therapy and sedatives, as well as doses of lorazepam and lithium, she was released without explanation.

Then, on top of everything else, Brock received a bill for $13,637.10 from the hospital.

Since then, she has filed suit for unspecified damages. As she continues her crusade for justice, she has one wish: “Follow me on Twitter! Like Obama does!”

What really kills me about this is a few things
False drug charges
Took someone’s property
Respectability politics fell through
Wasted this woman’s time
Racist belief that black people can’t be wealthy/powerful/connected landed this woman in a hospital
She is deemed bipolar and delusional
She is deemed BIPOLAR AND DELUSIONAL
SHE IS DEEMED BIPOLAR AND DELUSIONAL IN THE EYES OF WHITE SUPREMACY BECAUSE SHE KNOWS THAT SHE IS A BANKER AND WEALTHY
She has her clothes removed without her consent, which I’m sure violates a couple medical standards
She is then charged extreme amounts of money for services she got AGAINST her will
You can basically outright say that the cops were working in tandem with the hospital, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they had it out for her by the virtue of her money.
There’s so many levels to this fuckery it makes my head spin, the fact that people STILL don’t think institutional racism is a thing kills me. This is such a far gone example of it, yet it’s still so close to reality that no one is surprised. From the ground up this system will game the fuck out of you and I hope it burns to ashes someday.

Aboriginal ‘Lifestyle Choice’ to Live in Australia’s Outback Will No Longer be Supported

Looming Australian government cut backs mean hundreds of Aboriginal communities will be cut off from services or forced to close down, creating concern and anger among indigenous and
non-indigenous people alike.

Meanwhile, the country’s senate has
called on Prime Minister Tony Abbott to apologize for
describing Aboriginal Australians who live in remote communities as
having made a “lifestyle choice.”

Federal funding for water,
electricity, sewage, and other services in indigenous communities across
Western Australia will end on July 1, 2015.

It’s already started. At one of the rallies on Thursday against the closures several people said how their families water had already been turned off.

What’s going on with Mark??

Okay so, Mark P (not Mark S) made a rape joke about Lucifer and Sam in the cage, here are 4 accounts of it:

  • ’.@MarkRPellegrino : lucifer tortured sam. When he came back was he walking funny? Hey, lucifer needs love! #sfcon’ x
  • ‘Fan: Who tortured Sam more in Hell? Michael or Lucifer? Mark: I did absolutely. And look, Lucifer needed some love while down there..#sfcon’ x
  • ‘When asked who tortured Sam in the pit the most, Mark said “I did.” Sebastian concurred. Mark asked “When Sam came back, was he walking differently?” Allowing for the implications that came from that. They both agreed that Lucifer is still in the pit banging Michael.’ x
  • ‘i was at sfcon today and mark pellegrino made a lovely little joke about lucifer raping sam in hell.’ x

In case isn’t obvious how exactly it’s a rape joke: Sam ‘walking differently/funny’ is supposed to imply sex (getting fucked so hard you can’t walk straight) so they’re discussing sex in terms of torture. That’s rape. We all saw Sam in season 7, he didn’t have a dopey smile on his face due to getting a good fuck from Satan, he was traumatized and he was suffering ptsd and he was terrified of his hallucinations of Lucifer and that hallucination very heavily implied Lucifer raped Sam in hell. The fact that Mark (and Seb) made a joke about it, as if it’s somehow funny? As if it’s something to make light of? Is so fucking disgusting. Rape isn’t funny, it’s a very serious issue, even when it comes to fictional characters.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, when called out on it on twitter he did 2 things. 1: he blocked the people calling him out. 2: he defended himself by bringing up ‘perspective’ that had literally nothing to do with this event at all:

Okay so

  • a) Whether it was the intention or not, it was still a rape joke. A white person could call a black person the n word with no intention of being mean or derogatory and it would still be racist. Intention doesn’t mean shit.
  • b) ‘I am the BIGGEST defender of woman’s rights AROUND the world you will EVER know.’ – he’s joking right? Saving a woman from rape doesn’t make you the next Captain America and it sure as hell doesn’t mean you get to use it to deflect from real issues. Saving someone from rape doesn’t mean you can totally get away with making rape jokes. It just makes you an even bigger piece of shit because you’re contributing to the culture that almost got her raped. You saved her once, but you don’t even care to make sure she stays safe? That’s like giving a homeless person $10 and then voting to close down the nearest soup kitchen.
  • Following on from that, she’s not ‘safer’. She’s not. She may not be a rape victim but being saved once doesn’t suddenly mean she’s immune to ever being raped again. And since, like I said, he’s happily contributing to rape culture AND defending his behaviour, there’s always a chance that she could get attacked again.
  • ‘I’ve done more than one right thing esp when it comes to women’s rights.’ – What does that have to do with anything though? You still made a rape joke, you still refuse to apologize for it and are instead bringing up ‘context’ and ‘perspective’ that have literally NOTHING to do with what anyone’s talking about. Context/perspective would be discussing what actually happened at the con. Talking about what was said, if maybe it was misinterpreted by livetweeters, etc etc etc. But he didn’t. He just immediately started crying about being the ultimate defender of women’s rights????? It’s like the rape apologist white man version of ‘I’m not racist! I helped a black man carry his shopping once!!’ It’s irrelevant.
  • ‘Can I just say I am done with stupid people.? They kind of suck.’ And that’s that. If you call him out on his rape joke, you’re stupid. If you aren’t buying into his completely irrelevant excuse, you’re stupid. If you’re upset by his rape joke, you’re stupid. If you were triggered by his rape joke, you’re stupid. It doesn’t matter who you are or what experiences you have with sexual assault, you’re stupid. Because this white man with a savior complex said so and he saved a woman this one time so he’s an expert who can’t possibly do anything wrong because, well, he saved a woman once.

In summary: Mark P made a rape joke, Mark P refused to apologize for his rape joke, Mark P defended himself by bringing up something irrelevant, Mark P referred to people who were upset by his rape joke as stupid.

Wow he just keeps digging that hole.

image

He does realize that some of the people he’s dismissing as stupid are actual rape victims who were triggered by his joke, right? Disgusting.

What the actual fuck is wrong with this man?

Grow the fuck up.

Tuebl.ca is my new most favoritest site.

for people who don’t know, Tuebl.ca is essentially a FREE AND AUTHORIZED ONLINE LIBRARY WHERE YOU CAN DOWNLOAD FREE .EPUB VERSIONS OF POPULAR BOOKS.

When I say authorized, I mean popular authors PUT THEIR BOOKS UP THERE FOR FREE BECAUSE THEY KNOW EBOOKS WILL GET THEM NEW FANS WHO WILL THEN GO ON TO BUY THEIR  BOOKS.

I’m talking like John Grisham. Jacqueline Carey. Stephanie Meyers. Jeffrey Eugenides. FUCKING ANNA QUINDLEN. A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE.

that’s just the start. seriously. try it out.

Every so often I reblog this because more people should know about Tuebl.

It’s free ebooks.

Legit, free ebooks.

Free ebooks that will not get you sued for copyright piracy bullshit.

Authors agree to have their books put up for free.

And not just like authors attempting to garner fans and get famous.

I’m talking legitimately every time I see a book on my wishlist on Amazon I go to tuebl first and like 8 or 9 times out of ten IT IS ALREADY THERE, AND IF IT IS NOT THERE, THE AUTHOR HAS PLACED OTHER BOOKS THEY HAVE WRITTEN ON THERE.

For the love of god, spread the good news. This is why the internet is created. Full stop.

So I never authorized any of my books for this website and yet one of my books is there. Guys this is a Pirating site masquerading as a legitimate library. Big time authors who make millions of dollars might not care but mid list authors, like myself, are really hurting due to piracy. If you need a free book visit a real library. They have licensing agreements that benefit authors. It isn’t only money from the sale of a book that is lost. It’s numbers. Poor track sales means an author might never get another book deal. That’s not just loss of income. That is loss of their career. So please don’t pirate books. It is stealing.

This is not legit.

I am so sorry, because I get the excitement, I get “my budget is tight and my library doesn’t have ebooks.”  But this is not legit.

Please, please, help me (and authors like me) feed our cats and keep our lights on by not downloading our work from piracy sites.

Books of mine are there too, and I have never given permission for it. Getting them removed is a nuisance, even just once. (Note how their legal page threatens you right up front with a $150 “false takedown” fee if they decide you’re fraudulently demanding removal, and the banning of your IP so you can’t require further takedowns — but they’re the ones who decide what’s fraudulent: you’ve got no recourse or appeal.)

Every writer knows that money’s tight all around and people like it better the less they have to pay for a book. That’s why we keep prices as low as we can lat Ebooks Direct, and run so many sales. But sites like these hurt sales for new writers and established midlist writers equally. And when your sales at a publisher are bad, in this market, you don’t get another chance, another contract, another opportunity to make a modest living doing this work. You get told “too bad, we’re done”. And when you try to find a home at another publisher, they see your sales figures from the last one, and shake their heads and show you the door.

Don’t think the presence of an author’s work on a site like this is any help to them. Or any indicator of the author putting the works there. It’s what the Tuebl people would like you to believe, I’m sure.

(And if the fact that the place is run by a company called “Evil LLC” isn’t indicator enough for you, then I’m not sure what else needs to be said.)

If you’re a friend of authors, and of the idea that they should be able to make a living from the books they spend their hard work and their passion on: avoid.

Welcome to Tuebl
