The line “Hey there, Delilah / You be good, and don’t you miss me / Two more years and you’ll be done with school / And I’ll be makin’ history like I do” is an example of the classic erasure of women’s success when compared to men because who’s to say Delilah’s degree won’t come with a groundbreaking piece of research that changes her field forever and mr. plain white tees over is just writing simple chord progressions not discovering new theories of societal advancement. In this essay I will—
Delilah went out and earned her degree and mr. plain white tees had the AUDACITY to say “someday I’ll pay the bills with this guitar.” Delilah honey dump his ass & go make your money.
Not to read into this post too deep but this is an interview with the real ‘Delilah’ in the song where she talks about how she wasn’t actually even dating mr plain white tees guy when the song came out and for a long time the song was a source of discomfort for her.. She also talks about her accomplishments as an athlete in this interview, she’s a rlly talented long distance runner.
“kids today are so inappropriate with their sexting and nude pictures it’s so horrible!!” listen in the 1st century bc the noblewoman servilia sent a sexy letter to julius caesar while he was in a meeting of the senate, and cato thought it was evidence that caesar was part of a conspiracy and demanded to be able to read it, so basically cato read servilia’s sext to caesar in the middle of a goddamn senate meeting, so this isn’t really anything new
Honestly if you’re not watching this debate you might want to turn it on. Trump is talking so fast I’m starting to suspect he might be on something, he screamed at Anderson Cooper for not having brought up a topic he just brought up, he threatened to have Hillary Clinton arrested, and he’s refusing to apologize for his groping comments, he’s still pretending he was against the war in Iraq, and he just told a Muslim woman that his plan to protect Muslims from Islamophobia was to push Islam as the problem, it’s a trainwreck
while I was saying this he tried to dodge the question about whether or not he still wants to ban all Muslims from entering America and yelled at Martha Raddatz for asking him to answer the question
while I was typing THIS he yelled at Martha Raddatz again for trying to move on to the next question, claiming Hillary went over her time. Martha refused to allow him this lie, and he got even more pissed off
He just said “I know nothing about Russia” and then had to backpedal when he realized what he’d just said
I’ve lost count of the amount of times Anderson Cooper has had to say “Please allow her to respond, she didn’t interrupt you”
Martha had to stop Donald from attempting to respond to Hillary’s response (which was not something he gets according to the rules) to tell him it’s supposed to be about the audience
Just for the record, I know it looks like I’m JUST listing off Donald Trump’s fuckups in this debate, but I’m listing both candidates’ mistakes, it’s just that Hillary’s biggest political mistake thus far in the debate is mispronouncing the word “fast” and given that the other guy has said “bigly” during this debate I feel like it’s hard to make this seem fair
He just praised Assad and Russia
Martha has taken to just repeating the question louder when he’s refusing to answer the question
He just said America was stupid
Everything I’m typing is a primary source and the history students of the future can use it for their essays, just make sure to cite me, Daniel Sabato 2016
if you take a shot every time he interrupts, shouts down his opponent or the moderator, refuses to answer the voters’ questions, or uses the word “disaster,” you will be dead of alcohol poisoning TONIGHT
He’s trying to make it sound like the moderators are being unfair to him because they keep calling him on breaking rules but they don’t call out Clinton as much, but the fact is that Clinton is just… not breaking the rules as much….
somebody reblogged this post and tagged it “not homestuck” and I’m not 100% sure they’re right
Netflix clearly needs to buy this comedy thriller because I think it just might be a hit
remember when EA made an edgy sequel to Spore and how it literally doesn’t exist any more thanks to drm
Someone tell the monster factory boys
No, you don’t understand. Due to the old witch hunts against piracy, this game only works if you were connected to the EA servers with a legit copy, but as of March 1st 2016, the servers were shut down and there was no patch released to continue playing it offline.
You literally cannot play this game anymore.
It is impossible for our two special boys at the monster factory to make more special boys in this game.
cursed game
I can’t believe there’s literally a sequel to Spore called “Dark Spore” and no one can ever play it again, life imitates creepypasta.
M: I like the fact that you power up by eating real food. Shio ramen gives you a lot of power — CC Lemon, not as much. It all makes sense. S: The breaded pork cutlet bento box is like mega power. More than ramen. That’s accurate.
The United States of America is only one of two countries that has not approved and accepted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The other is South Sudan, which has already begun the ratification process.
Among other things, the CRC ensures children under the age of 18 have the right to life, identity and name, education, freedom of expression, equal opportunity, healthcare, psychological recovery, cultural sensitivities for minority/indigenous groups, and access to information [x].
The lack of the CRC in the USA is part of the reason why it is okay to send children to abusive “camps” that attack their identity as LGBTQ+ minorities, enroll them in private schools that intentionally deny students opportunities to learn about science (particularly anatomy and sexuality), and sign away their children’s rights to the state.
It is also why juveniles in the USA can be sentenced to life imprisonment with no chance of parole, a legal implications that particularly affects people of color, especially Black and Latinx children.
The CRC also specifies that children should not be disciplined in a manner that is considered abusive, and the USA therefore does not regulate the “discipline” occurring in homes of at-risk children, even when it qualifies as mental or emotional abuse.
Due to the lack of the CRC, children can be relocated against their will (eg, deportation/trafficking) to potentially dangerous and life-threatening places, can be separated from their parents, or can be kept in isolation.
Basically, the United States, which claims to be a great champion of human rights, has consistently refused to ratify or even introduce the bill to ratify the Convention of the Rights of the Child.
Update on this (2016): USA is now the only country not to ratify the CRC. [x]
Over half of public school students are poor enough to qualify for lunch subsidies, and almost half of black children under the age of six are living in poverty. [x]
The US is one of two “developed” country with the lowest standards for child well-being (Romania is the other). [x]
16 million kids live in poverty and 138 thousand kids are homeless (2013-2015). [x]
Homelessness in children has increased by 60% in the past 6 years. [x]
In 2001, 325,000 children were at risk for becoming victims of sexual exploitation in the United States. [x]
Of all sex trafficking victims in the USA: 17% are underage girls and 10% are underage boys. [x]
this is horrifying because I’m a US citizen and I didn’t even know the CRC existed?? I thought the way children are treated under the legal system here was completely normal and standard??? literally until I read this I had no conception of anything different and now I’m trying to wrap my head around the fact that in other places it wouldn’t be allowed for my classmates to be beaten by their parents or shipped off to be made straight
@cou
The fundamentalist homeschooling lobby HSLDA has a lot to do with this.
It’s so frustrating. It’s all about “parents’ rights” and kids pretty much being the literal property of their parents for the parents to do whatever they want with.
I just woke up from the craziest dream. A friend and I were in Kohl’s trying on shirts and this girl our age came out of the fitting room in a pretty dress, and I told her she looked great. The girl looked surprised but pleased, and we started talking. The girl was like, “Sometimes I come into places like this with lots of mirrors so I don’t forget how I awesome I look.”
So my friend, the girl, and I walk through the store together, talking about random things, looking at jewelry (the girl found a pair of Vera Wang earrings and wistfully commented that they looked like dying stars and that her brother would love them) and socks. Meanwhile, we start to notice people around us are glued to their phones. One lady has her hand over her mouth in horror, tears streaming down her face. Kohl’s seems an awfully lot more empty than it had been. The girl brightly suggests we look in homewares.
We go to the back of the store and start smelling all the Yankee Candles, and the girl is like, “People can be so creative. Vanilla lime? Genius! I’m going to miss this.” My friend asks if she’s going on a trip and the girl is nonchalant, like, “Things will be changing for me real soon and I’m not going to be able to enjoy things like candles anymore.” My friend wishes her all the best with whatever and I say we’ll buy her the candle so she has something to remember us by, and the girl is all, “You both are very kind. I won’t forget that, I promise.”
So we go to check out, but no one’s there. So we wait and wait, and then the girl shrugs, takes the candle and the Vera Wang earrings, and goes to leave. My friend and I are mortified, crying that she has to pay for them, and the girl is like, “I doubt they’ll mind,” as she leaves. Then my friend notices the store is completely empty and takes out her phone, which is blinking with dozens of missed calls, texts, and alerts.
She opens one of the alerts and it takes her to a breaking news video. All over the world, there is chaos. Horrifying things are devouring people and destroying cities. A giant cube of sand with teeth and weird proboscises on every side is sucking up people in Rio, and a slow-moving slender titan made of clouds is walking through San Fransisco and leaving nothing in its wake. Off the coast of Japan, something is rising from the ocean but the video cuts out.
Terrified, we run out of Kohl’s and find the girl standing at the curb. She’s staring at the sky over Route 1 as a giant, shifting mass of black mist descends. The girl turns to us, smiles, and says, “That’s my brother. Thank you for a lovely day of shopping. I’ll never forget it.”
Then the skin of her face and neck begins to crack and flake away, revealing fault lines of indescribable things underneath. My friend starts to weep. I manage to get out through chattering teeth that I hope her brother likes the earrings, and the girl–barely human now–smiles with the remnants of a million devoured suns and says, “You know, if everyone had been as nice as you two, we wouldn’t have come to this.”
And then she squared herself exponentially and swallowed everything up.
My kid cousin, all of 11 years old, called me up sobbing today. I had about 50 horrifying reasons popping up in my head when he stopped crying enough to ask one question
“Cap’s not Hydra, right?”
A bit of background on why this made sense to me: My cousin was 3 when me and my brother bought him a cute Captain America hoodie. He was 5 when he first caught sight of his dad’s comic collection. He was 8 when he insisted on dressing up as Captain America for a contest at school. He was 9 when he first got bullied and his mom used Captain America as a symbol to tell him to always be kind in strength, to know that he was a better person. He got his Marvel encyclopedia last year for his birthday and every time we meet, me and him have hours long discussions on the characters. His favorite Avenger is Iron Man but he has always been and will always be a Cap’s boy. Steve Rogers has helped him appreciate his own strengths, has helped him understand that being a good person is much more important than being perfect. He got strength from Cap’s stand against bullying, inspiration from Steve’s ability to be kind and caring about the world even in the worst of situations, and most of all motivation to appreciate his own goodness. To him, he was just like Steve Rogers and I’ve seen that kid be so proud of that.
And today he calls me up, shattered and heartbroken, because his ideals, his dreams and convictions of years have been ripped apart. He felt betrayed and lost, because if Cap, his Cap, could be Hydra, a Nazi organization, then did it mean that he was drawing strength from evil all these years?
An eleven year old is questioning his life choices. Nick, still think you’re funny?
My six year old godson is crying in his bedroom right now – his Marvel plastered, Captain America bedsheets and poster covered bedroom – because his hero is a bad-guy and apparently has been all along.
Nick Spencer is such a bad writer that the only way he could think of make his mark on a character like Steve Rogers is to steal the hero from thousands of children.
And if I thought I could find them without having to break out a microscope, I’d gladly do the jail time for punching him in the balls.
Tell kids everyone that Nick Spencer is Hydra and he’s trying to convince them to lose faith in Cap. This is what I told my nephew and he accepted that and decided he was going to keep wearing his Cap shirt because otherwise he was letting Hydra win.
This is a good plan. And excellent plan. Everyone do this!
