Everyone’s positivity for the DreamWorks movie home is awesome. I wanna take a moment to point out what they could have done better. Tip should have been the main character.
That being said, if you liked the movie, please go read the book it was based on, True Meaning of Smekday, written and illustrated by Adam Rex. The story is a bit different, but it’s the same characters, and Tip (Gratuity) Tucci is the main character. (Also Oh is named J Lo).
But please go support the movie, but also support the book!

Ok so I can’t find much in any tags to reblog. It has only been out for 3 days so that’s sort of expected.
Regardless, I choose to think of Smekday and Home as different entities, or alternate universes. They’re both PERFECT and you can see where Hone took inspiration and structure from the book but then made it’s own story, which I think Dreamworks made a good choice with. At times the movie made me nearly cry, at times it warmed my heart. Absolutely amazing.

1. Kuzco is an Emperor.
2. Kuzco identifies as an Emperor.
3. He is not a princess. He does not identify as a princess.
4. Calling him a princess because he doesn’t adhere to the white western interpretation of masculinity and because he’s “sassy” is sexist, racist, and reinforces the gender binary.
5. It’s really crappy.
6. Your sense of humor is tired and it sucks.

Can we stop romanticizing humor over people’s feelings? Can we stop saying “it was just a joke” or that terrible people are great because they “make people laugh?” Can we stop calling that a rare gift? it’s not a rare gift. You’ve been funny. All of your friends have been funny. Your mom has been funny. Comedy isn’t in short supply and doesn’t need to be protected.
