I know exactly what I would do with immortality: I would read every book in the library.

Mark Jason Dominus (via wordsnquotes)

I was discussing this concept with my husband, in context of “why on earth would vampires go to high school”. I said if they got bored they could just read all the books ever. He theorized that their personalities eventually change and they get bored with reading.

I replied that this was proof that vampires don’t have souls.

everyone’s got that couple of fanfics that you just read over and over even though you practically know it by heart because it’s so perfect it’s like a favorite book and you just catch yourself clicking to a random chapter on it because it’s so good it’s comforting to reread it

People complain about Tumblr being “too sensitive,” but…I actually kind of appreciate it. It’s helped me get in the habit of checking what I say before I post it, and thinking about how my words might affect others. My writing teachers at school taught me about so-called “proper” grammar and spelling, but they didn’t teach me how to write in a way that respects people. They taught me how to argue a thesis and defend an idea, but they didn’t teach me how to recognize when an idea was fucked-up, and when you should apologize and back down instead of trying to defend what you said.

Tumblr has problems too, of course. But I do feel like I’ve learned something here that I wouldn’t have otherwise.

Shoutout to all those people that have jobs like cleaning the bathrooms in rest areas or gas stations, to the people that take out the trash and wash dishes in restaurants, school janitors, house maids. You’re doing jobs that don’t get much recognition but are some of the toughest. stay awesome

white woman: men are awful
white man: not all men!
white woman: yes but enough men so that i feel endangered, your comment is unnecessary and derails the dialogue of women’s issues that i am attempting to engage in

Rape is the only crime on the books for which arguing that the temptation to commit it was too clear and obvious to resist is treated as a defence. For every other crime, we call that a confession.

I’ve gotten more angry asks about this post than I have actual reblogs.

sadly, yes. And also, rape of a prostitute being considered ok. Like because a store sells oranges, stealing oranges wrecking the store to rubble and beating the shopkeeper half dead is ok, too amirite?

The original post is true. I’ve worked with dv clients and took enough law in college to run into this a few times.

And may every god be with you if your rapist is your spouse.

However if a spouse is murdered it’s still murder.

Assault and battery by a spouse is called domestic assault though and may have either stricter or more lenient laws on it depending on locale.

I worked for an immigration attorney that handled a lot of Violence Against Women Act cases.  Noncitizen women have it even harder – sex slavery is alive and well in the US, and it is disturbing.  *shudders*
